Fresh Ingredients and spices that warm our whole bodies, these homecooked dishes have a way of making us feel as though everything is right in the world as their scent sweetens the air around us.
Since the age of ten, Neeta Batra Marwah has had a passion for cooking. Growing up watching her Grandfather cooking in his own restaurant, Neeta was always inspired to create wonderful, homemade dishes.
For ten years Neeta has been in the cooking business, taking time between to raise her two sons. It was when Neeta’s boys were older the encouragement behind opening her own restaurant came as they reminded their mother of the importance of continuing to follow her dreams.
Rasoi, The Indian Kitchen is a popular restaurant that brings authentic North Indian culture and cuisine to Sault Ste. Marie. Neeta, growing up in New Deli, India, moved to Sault Ste. Marie twelve years ago. Having such a heart for cooking she would work out of home and when Neeta opened her restaurant she found clients from many years ago still searching for her food specifically. Some people even asking “Do you mind if we take you home as a personal chef?” and Neeta always replying “You can but I come with a husband and two boys.”
Neeta’s home-style Indian dishes are popular even up to Deep River, Ottawa as many people request that when she comes to see her Son in university, that she brings their favorite dishes in bulk. They call her “Traveling Curry” and Neeta holds these people in high regard and she values her clients, viewing them as friends more so than customers. When she first began selling her food in Sault Ste. Marie, it was not only for the passion for cooking but also the desire to meet more people and make new friends. As we all know, food is the way to a person’s heart and the way Neeta makes her incredible dishes, it is impossible not to love such a kind and talented woman!
Neeta’s desire to share her culture has made a great impact on Sault Ste. Marie as the locals love to visit her restaurant and have her cater for their weddings, baby showers, fundraisers, Christmas parties and other events. Rasoi, The Indian Kitchen has become so popular as Neeta’s authentic North Indian cuisine warms the hearts of all who eat it. Neeta’s recipes for Butter Chicken, Chana Masala, and Curry are famous here in the Sault, among her many other incredible dishes.
Having Neeta in town running Rasoi has a huge impact on newcomers to the Sault from India as well. As Sault College and Algoma University bring in a lot of international students, Rasoi gives these students a little piece of home right here in the Sault. Her beautiful restaurant takes the edge off of being a long way away from home and the wonderful, caring energy around her makes it feel as though she could be anyone’s mother who walks through the Rasoi doors.
Neeta has done a wonderful job of making her restaurant feel comfortable and exciting. For anyone who has never had the pleasure of experiencing India, to eat at Rasoi The indian kitchen, and to view the beautiful decore of India that Neeta has lined the walls, lounge and ceiling with is a treat of its own. Beaded umbrellas hanging from the ceiling are an especially unique and colorful touch that brings a great sense of fun to the energy of this already amazing restaurant.
Neeta takes care to make sure that each dish she makes is customizable for every individual customer as a gesture to her customers of how important they are to her. She stays open during Christmas and has delivery options through Skip the Dishes and Uber Eats. It is important to Neeta that she is available and that her meals are ready even on the holidays so that she can bring a little bit of North Indian joy to the homes of all of her clients and friends.
