“THERE’S A FEW THINGS THAT ALL NEWCOMERS TO CANADA AND THE SAULT HAVE IN COMMON. THEY’RE AMBITIOUS. THEY WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND CONTRIBUTE. AND THEY APPRECIATE THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE OUR CITY GREAT, LIKE OUR VIBRANT LANDSCAPE AND WONDERFUL LOCALS.”
Anto Cyriac represents all these qualities and more.
Anto moved here from India in September 2019 to attend Sault College. Back home he had studied Mechatronics and worked in the Industrial Electrical maintenance field for three years before he opted to switch paths and take Electrical Engineering. When Anto decided to study abroad he had approached an agency that offered him a great opportunity to live in Canada or New Zealand. Either path would be an adventure! Though the cold was an adjustment for someone from such a warm country, Anto feels he’s made the right choice as Canada presented him with many opportunities.
He feels right at home here in Sault Ste. Marie!
Anto has always had a passion for photography, he started out using small cameras and worked his way up to a Canon DSLR. It’s been a hobby he’s enjoyed for 6 years now, taking time back in India and here in the Sault as well to be creative. Influenced by his cousin’s drive and success, Anto chose to begin doing photography professionally as a side business. Anto has so much gratitude towards his cousin, whose similar creative passion inspired him to become more serious about his photography.
Anto loves taking photographs of people, especially portraits and family photos in such locales as Hiawatha and Bellevue Park. His favorite is capturing candid photos of children, who’s unpredictability often makes for the best photos. Anto is looking forward to the summer months when the Sault’s beautiful backdrops complement his creativity and the heat draws us all out of our warm homes.
Looking to the future, Anto will continue taking photographs as a side business while finishing school and embarking on a career. Scheduled to graduate in April of 2021, Anto loves the beauty of the Sault and imagines himself finding work and staying for a lot longer. Anto has enjoyed the people he has met in our friendly Northern town, from those he has had the opportunity to photograph, to his three roommates and lovely downstairs neighbor, a sweet elderly lady loves cooking for them. It is fantastic what the blessing of being surrounded by caring people can do to make someone feel at home. Our city is full of life and exciting things to do, people to see, it is a perfect atmosphere for someone as friendly, optimistic and talented as Anto!
